Winter by Marissa Meyer

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend–the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

My Review

I was waiting eagerly for the final installment in the Lunar Chronicles. I had read Book 1 in the series with trepidation because fractured fairy tales have, in my own opinion, been a bit overdone as of late. But, if you read that previous review you will remember this, I was quickly hooked on the series as it was something I was not expecting at all.

The final book in the series did not disappointed. Packed with action, emotion and adventure – I loved every page. As was the case with the former books in the series, Meyer takes the reader on a spellbinding adventure. All of our favourite characters are included and by the end of the book, each character’s tale has been spun to an ending (no spoilers on whether those are happy endings or not).

What I really enjoy about Meyer’s writing is the level of detail that comes with it. She truly creates a world that draws the reader in. And her character development is envious. Each character in the series (even evil Levana) are painted with a fullness and depth that few books in this genre can achieve.

This series will stay on my favourites list for a long time!
